Local-First Storage

Your transactions are stored on your device and work offline. Sign in and they're backed up too, so a lost phone doesn't mean lost data.

Expense data is a detailed map of your life: where you were, when, and what you bought. Cashmonki stores it on your phone by default.

Every transaction is written locally first, which is why the app keeps working on a plane, in a basement, or anywhere the signal dies.

Backup comes with an account

Cloud backup exists for the sensible reason that phones get lost. It comes with signing in: once you have an account, your transactions are backed up to your own private record so a new device can restore them, and you can switch backup off in Settings.

Without an account there is no backup to restore from. That's a fair trade for trying the app, but sign in before you have months of history on one phone.

Common questions

Transactions are written to your phone first, and the app works fully offline. Once you sign in, they're also backed up to your own private record; you can switch that off in Settings. When you use Ask, the transactions it needs to answer are sent to the AI model.

Backup turns on, so your transactions survive a lost phone and restore on a new one. Anything you logged as a guest comes with you. You can turn backup off in Settings.

Yes. As a guest everything works, but there's no backup you can restore from, so if you lose or wipe the phone your history goes with it.
